Finding Humor in Tough Times

     It was 2004 and my father was going through cancer treatment. He was in the hospital and they decided to administer his first dose of chemo while he was inpatient. The thought was that they wanted to monitor him closely during the infusion.  My brother had flown into town to be with my dad and he joined me and our step mom at the hospital on chemo day.  Our family has always been very comical but we were not prepared for that day's events.

The Good With the Bad

 Have you ever heard the saying that says something about how you can't have the good without the bad? Why is it that God/ mother nature/your higher power would allow so many bad things to happen? One only has to listen to the news on any given day or scroll through one's Facebook page to learn about the bullshit that is happening to so many people. Why can't life be all glitter and gardenias? Because that is just not how it works. Here is a small example.

Doing it Your Way

      I don't know if it is just me (I doubt it) but I sometimes find myself looking back on my life and wondering where all the time has gone. Wasn't it just yesterday that we were graduating from high school? Weren't my kids just in diapers? How did I get to be old enough to have three adult kids? And, dammit, why am I catching myself saying things that only old people say such as, "Man time sure does fly the older you get" and "Back in my day..."?!
